More weddings cancelled as magistrates’ strike continues
Three more couples were left devastated at the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Friday when their weddings were cancelled due to the ongoing nationwide magistrates’ strike.
Out of five couples scheduled to wed, only two managed to formalise their unions, while the rest pleaded in vain for assistance. One groom broke down in tears after learning his ceremony would not proceed, with his bride explaining that he had travelled from Zimbabwe - spending N$4 000 on transport - only to face disappointment.
Another bride said she had taken two days off work for the ceremony and feared losing her job, while a mother who travelled from Ohangwena said her family had already slaughtered an ox in celebration.
The strike, triggered by disputes over unpaid allowances and benefits, has paralysed court operations across Namibia, leaving families stranded and wedding plans in limbo.
