Migration bill targets tighter border screening
During a public consultation on the Migration Bill in Oshakati yesterday, home affairs minister Lucia Iipumbu said the proposed law aims to introduce new permit categories not adequately covered under the current legal framework.
These include investor permits, rare-skills permits, spousal permits, special-category permits for certain workers, and medical-entry visas.
The bill also seeks to strengthen pre-arrival screening procedures through systems such as advance passenger information and passenger name records.
"These systems will enable the relevant authorities to assess travellers prior to their boarding, thereby strengthening national security and reducing instances where travellers are only refused entry upon arrival,” Iipumbu said.
