Medical storage gets N$178m upgrade

A N$178 million project to construct a new Central Medical Store (CMS) and refurbish the existing warehouse is set to commence following the signing of a contract between the Central Procurement Board of Namibia (CPBN) and the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

The contract, valued at N$177.99 million, was awarded to a joint venture between New Era Investment (Pty) Ltd and Summit Trading CC after the conclusion of the procurement process, CPBN said in a statement yesterday.

The project is intended to address critical shortcomings in Namibia’s medical storage capacity and improve compliance with good storage practices for medicines and other medical supplies.\

The existing warehouse has a storage capacity of approximately 2 900 cubic metres, against an estimated requirement of 4 600 cubic metres. This leaves a shortfall of about 1 700 cubic metres.

The new facility will expand storage capacity while also providing office accommodation and ancillary infrastructure, including storage racking systems, security systems, water, electricity and sewerage systems.
