Khorixas father abandons toddler
NEWS IN SHORT
A man who reportedly left his young daughter in the care of a minor at a shopping complex in Khorixas on Friday is being questioned by police.
A 13-year-old girl was seated outside Shoprite when a man approached her. He reportedly handed the baby to the teenager, claiming he needed to retrieve the child’s belongings from his vehicle — but he never returned. The teenager later informed her father, who reported the incident to the police.
NBC Digital reported that the child’s 20-year-old mother, located in Outjo, told authorities she had taken the toddler to the father’s workplace last Thursday so that he could take responsibility for her.
She accused him of failing to support the child. The man claimed he had travelled from Outjo to search for the child’s mother but said he did not know her current whereabouts.
Police confirmed the matter is now being handled by a social worker.
