Keetmans learners arrested over N$72 000 counterfeit money
Two young people, including a 17-year-old secondary school learner, were arrested on Friday for possession of counterfeit currency.
The Namibian Police reports that the female suspect, a learner at J.A. Van Nel Secondary School, attempted to buy a portion of chips from fellow learners during the school’s entrepreneurship day using fake notes worth N$400. The sellers noticed that a N$200 note was counterfeit and alerted a teacher.
When questioned, the suspect admitted receiving the fake money from her boyfriend and revealed that a bag containing more counterfeit notes was kept at their home. A subsequent search uncovered fake cash totaling N$72,200, comprising N$50,800 in Namibian dollars and R21,400 in South African rand.
The second suspect, a 19-year-old male, was also arrested. Both are expected to appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate\'s Court today. Police investigations are ongoing.
