Kavango fish farmers struggle amid feed supply delays
Kavango East fish farmers face a severe crisis, with a lack of imported fish feed threatening production.
This was revealed yesterday by local fish farmer Haingura Sophia during a visit to Wambambangandu Fish Farm by governor Hamunyera Hambyuka.
Haingura said the feed, normally imported from Zambia, has been unavailable since the fisheries ministry was merged with the agriculture ministry. This has led to procurement delays and disrupted subsidised fish feed supply to farmers.
With prices at private suppliers soaring to N$1 500 per bag, farmers cannot sustain their ponds, putting the local fish supply at risk.
