July drug crackdown nets 217
Police arrested 217 suspects during a nationwide anti-drug operation in July for offences including dealing in, possessing and using illegal drugs.
Of the 217 suspects, 207 were Namibians, while the remaining 10 were five Congolese nationals, two Angolan nationals and one national each from Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Police seized large quantities of drugs during the operation, including more than 484 kg of cannabis, over 2 100 Mandrax tablets, 315 units of crack cocaine, 30 g of cocaine and 5 g of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as tik.
