Isaacs appointed head of genocide committee
Senior official in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Steven Isaacs, has been appointed chairperson of the Technical Committee on Genocide, Reparations and Apology, replacing Tonata Itenge-Emvula, Namibia’s ambassador-designate to the People’s Republic of China.
Isaacs’ appointment comes amid the ongoing impasse over Germany’s N$18 billion offer for its colonial-era atrocities in Namibia — a proposal that has been widely rejected by affected communities. A court challenge is also underway, seeking to set aside the joint declaration agreement signed between Namibia and Germany on the matter.
