Intercape faces Nekundi's wrath
The ministry of works and transport has taken action against transport company Intercape for illegal cabotage after the company used South African-registered buses for domestic transport in Namibia during preparations for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
In a statement issued today, Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi said Intercape operated without the required approval and failed to respond adequately to requests to justify the use of foreign-registered buses, despite sufficient local transport capacity being available.
Nekundi said the conduct undermined Namibia’s transport laws and national sovereignty.
As a result, Intercape will be fined N$4,000 per vehicle and ordered to immediately withdraw the affected buses from operation. The company has also been warned that continued violations could lead to the seizure and impoundment of the vehicles.
The directive took effect from 13 January 2026.
