Hengari's co-accused alleges pressure by investigator
The co-accused in the rape case involving former agriculture minister Mac Hengari—who cannot be named as he is the brother of the 21-year-old alleged victim—told Magistrate Monica Andjaba during his bail hearing that he was arrested shortly after arriving in Namibia from Frankfurt via Addis Ababa on 26 April.
He testified that moments before his arrest, his sister whispered to him that he will be released.
"The investigating officer only wants Mr Hengari, not you.”
He further alleged that while in custody at Windhoek Correctional Facility, investigating officer Vaino Werner visited him three times without his lawyer present, reportedly pressuring him to plead guilty if he “ever wanted to see [his] wife and son again.”
