Govt to regulate driving schools

The transport ministry plans to conduct nationwide stakeholder consultations on the proposed regulation of driving schools and driving instructors, as part of efforts to improve road safety and ensure new drivers receive standardised, high-quality training.

Works and transport minister Veikko Nekundi said the consultations will focus on proposed regulations covering instructor certification, competence and experience, standardised driver training, consumer protection, and stricter requirements for training vehicles and facilities.

The consultations will run from August to March 2027, with the first sessions scheduled for 24 August in Swakopmund, 27 August in Otjiwarongo, 28 August in Oshakati and 15 September in Keetmanshoop. Dates for other regions will be announced in the coming months.
