Goethe-Institut organises reading for children
NEWS IN SHORT
The Goethe-Institut recently organised a reading event for children aged four to eight years old. Around 50 children gathered at the Mondesa Community Library in Swakopmund to experience a completely new style of storytelling.
The focus of the event was on the traditional Japanese storytelling form known as Kamishibai. In Kamishibai, stories are told using illustrated cards displayed in a wooden frame known as a storytelling theatre. The combination of narrated text and vivid images was well received by the young audience.
The children’s story “Open Your Eyes, Minda” was also read aloud. This story is part of the Booksprint Namibia project, a collaboration between the Goethe-Institut and the German Embassy aimed at creating diverse, locally relevant stories for children in Namibia.
