Flood-prone school gains higher ground

The Central Procurement Board of Namibia (CPBN) has facilitated the signing of a N$268.7 million contract for the elevation and redevelopment of the flood-prone Muzii Combined School in the Zambezi region.

The contract, awarded to Art Construction CC on behalf of the education ministry, will include elevated school grounds and embankment protection, as well as new hostels, classrooms and laboratories, staff houses, a kitchen and dining hall, administration facilities and other supporting infrastructure. The school was severely affected by flooding earlier this year, forcing the relocation of learners and a halt to classes.

The project is expected to take 36 months to complete and is intended to strengthen the school against recurring flooding, minimise disruptions to teaching and learning, and provide learners and staff with safer and more conducive facilities.
