Five cent remains legal currency - BoN
NEWS IN SHORT
The five-cent coin remains legal tender in Namibia, the Bank of Namibia (BoN) confirmed this week and warned that businesses that refuse to accept the coin are acting illegally.
The issue was among the topics discussed at the BoN’s annual economic reporting workshop on Monday.
During the event, deputy governor Leonie Dunn emphasised the bank’s commitment to transparency and public engagement, noting that initiatives explaining the significance of currency help citizens understand both daily financial matters and the broader economy.
Dunn also highlighted that in September, Namibia will host the Alliance for Financial Inclusion Global Policy Forum for the first time, putting the country at the centre of global discussions on financial inclusion.
