Farms cost too much, governor says

Otjozondjupa governor John Julius //Khamuseb has called on government to consider measures to regulate farm prices, arguing that without intervention, equitable access to land would remain unattainable for the majority of Namibians.

Speaking during his State of the Region Address yesterday //Khamuseb said a farm of about 2 500 hectares can cost as much as N$12.5 million, making meaningful land reform difficult.

The governor also proposed expanding group resettlement schemes to accommodate multiple families on shared agricultural land while encouraging the transition of successful communal farmers into commercial farming.
