EFN mourns veteran cameraman Lamech Mwanyangapo
The Editors Forum of Namibia (EFN) has expressed sadness over the death of veteran broadcaster and former Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) senior cameraman Lamech Mwanyangapo.
In a statement issued on Saturday, EFN chairperson Toivo Ndjebela said Mwanyangapo’s death was a loss not only to his family, but also to Namibia’s media fraternity and the wider community.
Mwanyangapo served the NBC as a senior cameraman for many years before his retirement. Through his work behind the camera, he documented people, events and moments that contributed to Namibia’s broadcasting and journalism history.
In recent years, Mwanyangapo also became a prominent cancer awareness advocate following his diagnosis with multiple myeloma in 2023.
He subsequently used his personal battle with the disease to raise awareness, promote early detection and advocate for improved support for cancer patients. Through the Lamech Mwanyangapo Cancer Foundation, he also sought to provide hope and a voice to people confronting cancer.
“The EFN extends its deepest condolences to the Mwanyangapo family, his friends, former colleagues at NBC, the cancer awareness community and all those whose lives he touched,” Ndjebela said.
The forum described Mwanyangapo’s legacy as one of service, courage and advocacy, saying his contribution should continue to inspire others.
