Education progress noted, but ‘long way to go’ – president
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has commended the country's education sector for the progress made over the years but urged intensified efforts to achieve a 90% or higher national pass rate.
Speaking at the official opening of Cabinet on Monday, Nandi-Ndaitwah said while strides have been made, “we must all agree that we still have a long way to go for the realisation of the desirable education goals.”
She praised the introduction of the new subsidised tertiary education funding model, congratulating the ministers of education and finance as well as the task force responsible for its implementation.
“You have worked around the clock and your hard work has paid off,” she said, adding that while the system has started smoothly, any emerging challenges “will be addressed as we get used to the system.”
