Capricorn Foundation and WFP empower Omusati farmers
SHORT NEWS
A joint project by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the Capricorn Foundation, and the organisation Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) is successfully contributing to improving local food security in the Omusati region.
Since January, the initiative has supported 120 farming households in establishing small-scale agricultural projects. Participating families received training, seeds, irrigation systems and tools to grow nutritious crops – both for their own consumption and for sale at local markets. According to the WFP, more than 900 community members now benefit directly from the project.
The project’s implementation on the ground is managed by DAPP Namibia, which provides training, installs shade nets and offers regular follow-up support to ensure sustainability. The initiative is jointly funded by the Capricorn Foundation and the WFP.
