The Omusati Police have safely reunited a one-year-old baby boy with his mother after he was allegedly kidnapped in Okahao on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect, identified as a 26-year-old Angolan woman, was arrested on Wednesday in Omapopo Village in the Uuvudhiya constituency.

According to police, the child’s mother, Maria Magdalena Wernesta (19), also an Angolan national, met the suspect in Okahao. The two women allegedly exchanged contact numbers before beginning to walk together.

The situation turned into a nightmare when the mother noticed that one of her baby’s shoes had fallen off. She reportedly asked the suspect to hold the child while she went back to retrieve it. When she returned, both the suspect and her baby were gone.

Police said the mother then tried calling the suspect, who initially answered and claimed she was waiting further ahead, before switching off her phone.
