Arandis rations water
NEWS IN SHORT
NamWater has reported reduced water supply from the Orano Desalination Plant, which provides potable water to Swakopmund and Arandis. The reduction is due to a sulphur bloom in the ocean that was reported last Tuesday, 8 April. These weather-related disruptions have affected the plant’s operations, leading to critically low reservoir levels – below 50% for Swakopmund and below 30% for Arandis. NamWater expects these interruptions to continue for at least the next five days and possibly longer.
To manage the limited supply and prevent the reservoirs from running dry, NamWater has advised the Arandis Town Council to implement water rationing measures from 14 to 18 April. Rationing will take place daily from 22:00 to 04:00. For any urgent needs or further enquiries, please contact the Arandis Town Council or NamWater.
