Angolan herder, mother arrested on child marriage charges
NEWS IN SHORT
Police in Kavango West on Saturday arrested a 26-year-old Angolan cattle herder and the mother (41) of a 14-year-old girl at Ncaute village. According to Namibian Police Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, the male suspect allegedly approached the victim’s mother, requesting the child's hand in marriage and promising to provide school support. Police say the mother consented and allowed the minor, a Grade 5 learner, to live with the suspect for a period of time. Both are expected to appear before the Rundu Magistrate’s Court this week.
