ACC uncovers alleged job-for-cash scheme

A former cleaner at the Oluno military base has been arrested and charged with allegedly soliciting more than N$55 850 in bribes from members of the public in exchange for securing them cleaning jobs at the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said Tayilombuele Claudia Hatutale (46) was arrested in Oshakati on 27 August following an investigation into alleged corrupt practices.

Hatutale allegedly solicited payments from between 2015 and 2017, promising to secure employment for members of the public as cleaners in the ministry. The commission said she failed to secure the promised jobs after receiving the money.

Hatutale faces seven counts.

She appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on the day of her arrest and was granted bail of N$10 000.
