President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is set to officially open the third session of the eighth parliament on 3 February.
Speaker of the National Assembly Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila announced that the opening will take place at 14:30 at the Parliament Building and will be held under the theme 'Enhancing the role of parliament for inclusive development and participatory democracy'.
The event, a key fixture on Namibia’s national calendar, brings together the three arms of state, the executive, legislature and judiciary, and will be marked by full ceremonial honours, including a guard of honour, a military parade and a 21-gun salute.
Several key pieces of legislation are expected to be tabled during the parliamentary session.
These include the Public Enterprises and Governance Amendment Bill, 2025; the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Amendment Bill, 2025; the Land Bill; the Mental Health Bill; and the Regional Councils Amendment Bill. The Public Accountants and Auditors Bill, 2024, as well as the Income Tax Amendment Bill, 2024, are also pending tabling.
