Nandi-Ndaitwah urges strong support for Swapo in elections

Swapo Party president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged Namibians to turn out in large numbers to vote for the ruling party’s candidates in the upcoming regional and local authority elections, saying Swapo remains the only vehicle for delivering development and stability across the country.

Speaking at a Swapo Party Star Rally in Engela, Ohangwena region, just over a week ago, Nandi-Ndaitwah cautioned that the hard-won progress achieved under the ruling party must not be derailed by division or leadership that fails to align with national development priorities.

She said that as Namibians prepare to head to the polls in the coming weeks, the elections should not be seen as separate from broader national goals.

They are part of the same mission – to bring development to where people live and to ensure that decisions made at the top are felt in the daily lives of citizens at the grassroots, the president said.

“I therefore call upon you, as true Namibians, to rally behind the Swapo Party candidates, the men and women who understand our national vision, who are ready to serve with humility and dedication. Your vote is your power. Use it to keep Namibia moving forward,” she said.

She said the theme that guided the party through last year’s elections remains as relevant today as it was then: 'Unity in Diversity: Natural Resources Beneficiation and Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development'.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said this is not just a slogan but “a vision, a call to unite across tribes, regions, and languages; to harness our God-given resources for the benefit of our people; and to empower our youth, who are the torchbearers of tomorrow”.

Development priorities

She once again reminded Swapo party supporters and sympathisers that the party’s election manifesto and implementation plan for 2025-2030 are focused on seven key developmental priorities, including agriculture; sports and youth empowerment; quality education and training; the creative industry; healthcare and social welfare; as well as land, housing, and sanitation.

These priorities would be driven by eight economic enablers – among them mining, energy, oil and gas, tourism, agriculture, water, fisheries, and transport and logistics – under the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6).

Nandi-Ndaitwah also noted that government recently convened the first Namibia Public-Private Forum to accelerate investment and job creation through stronger cooperation with the private sector.

She urged communities to defend the Swapo legacy and unity, emphasising that development follows where the party leads.

“Together we have come too far to turn back now,” she said. “On 26 November, vote for stability. Vote for progress. Vote for Namibia’s future.”
