Namibia, Angola discuss ‘peaceful coexistence’
News in short
International relations minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and executive director Penda Naanda undertook a goodwill mission to Angola yesterday and discussed the two countries’ "peaceful coexistence" with Teté António, external relations minister of Angola.
"The ministers exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and concern at bilateral level, including the issue of Namibian farmers grazing their cattle in the southern part of Angola, and reaffirmed the importance of peaceful coexistence and good neighbourliness along the common border,” a statement read.
“They underscored the sanctity and importance of respecting the rules, regulations and laws of Angola and Namibia. In this regard, it was re-emphasised that Namibians are welcomed on condition that they obey and respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Angola.”
Meanwhile, the preservation of protected natural reserves, in line with the objectives and principles of the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA CFTA), was reiterated, and the stakeholders called for the de-occupation of farmers who have illegally set up structures on Angolan territory, it said.
