Former Swapo members invited to rejoin

Tunohole Mungoba
Swapo party vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has invited former Swapo members to rejoin the party.

She issued this invitation during her keynote address at a Swapo mass mobilisation rally in the Oshana region over the weekend.

In addition, she spoke out against criticism that the party is no longer relevant.

“This rally is important, as it serves as an indication to our party members that we are working. I am sure that from what they have seen here today, they (critics) are now convinced that Swapo is here to stay forever. What they want, will not be achieved,” she told the attendees.

The party’s vice president told party members, especially the youth, not to be misled.

“You should not allow people to keep the history of Swapo party from you. This is where our ideologies stem from, so that our party can continue. Swapo members, you must protect our heroic struggles and history.

“As a Swapo member, you must be guided by our basic principles which are solidarity, freedom and justice,” said Nandi-Ndaitwah.

Struggles

She also addressed the high rate of unemployment in Namibia and said factors driving joblessness need to be identified.

“Is it because there is a mismatch between the courses people study and the availability of jobs? It is evident that we have a good education system, because it is the one that produced these graduates. It is now time for us to expand the economy and create jobs,” she said.

She urged party members to appreciate what government has achieved for the country so far, and cautioned them against complaining of slow development, while they can access clean drinking water and roads.

“How can you complain about things you can touch and see? Think about your villages. If there are schools with electricity, those are the basic needs of development. It is also now your time to think outside the box and improve these developments.”

Nandi-Ndaitwah called on members to put in the work for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections, and not to lose courage.
