CIVIC DUTY IN ACTION

NAMIBIANS GET INKED: Across Namibia, voters turned out early on Wednesday to cast their ballots in the 2025 regional council and local authority elections. In many placees, queues formed before dawn as citizens gathered at polling stations in anticipation of opening time, determined to have their say in shaping local governance for the next five years. Preparations at stations ran smoothly, with officials completing final checks, sealing ballot containers and issuing materials under the watchful eyes of party agents and police. Despite long waits, the atmosphere remained calm and orderly, at the majority of polling stations, reflecting both patience and a sense of civic duty as Namibians participated in this important day of local democracy.

Nevertheless, some voters showed their frustration with years of neglect. Residents of Thipanana in Kavango East refused to vote yesterday at the Tipanana Junior Primary School polling station. They said their refusal to vote stems from unmet promies in the area - including promises to provide electricity, which as not been delivered despite sending letters to the authorities.
