APP calls for equal protection
Condemns arrest of Chinatown 8
The party has urged NamRa officials to thoroughly investigate Chinese business people and assured the Namibian people a victory come the 2024 presidential elections.
The All People’s Party (APP) has requested the Namibian government to protect Namibian business people equally after a petition was handed over to Chinese businesswoman Stina Wu last week.
The petition, on the conduct of Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRa) officials, was delivered to Wu, who owns several stalls at Chinatown in Windhoek. This was announced last week at a media briefing in Ondangwa.
“We are not supporting anyone who wants to take the law into their laws. We are requesting that NamRa equally investigates the Chinese to ensure they too are prohibited from selling counterfeit products.
“There are also some rumours going around regarding NamRa officials who protect Chinese business people. If the government is failing to protect their people, people will take matters into their hands. This is the outcome of the arrest of Michael Amushelelo and Dimbulukeni Nauyoma,” Erastus Shuumbwa, acting president of APP, said.
‘Killing the market’
“Our black people were pushed out of towns because of the oversaturation of Chinese products. The black businesses moved to the villages and now the same Chinese people are occupying their space and selling products in villages.
“Now we wonder what is going on if the Chinese people are following us and killing our market,” Vinsent Kanyetu, party secretary-general, said.
“This is also the same government that stopped our people from harvesting mopani worms. If we try to catch fish in the [Okavango] River, people are arrested. There is a large scale of poverty in this country so people are frustrated and need protection and security. The platform and distribution of wealth is not equal,” he added.
New members
The party also used to the platform to announce 60 new party members, recruited last week alone.
“Come 2024 presidential elections, we are certain APP will be victorious. We want to bring back the sense of pride and love of being a Namibian.
“We also want to caution our people from voting for self-centred leaders. APP is the party for all and we are fighting for our black people who are suffering in this country,” Kanyetu said.
