Amukwiyu confident Swapo will retain all 11 Oshikoto constituencies
Swapo's Oshikoto regional coordinator Armas Amukwiyu has expressed confidence that the ruling party will retain all 11 constituencies in the upcoming local government elections on 26 November.
Amukwiyu made the remarks on Saturday during a rally held at Okatope in the Onyaanya Constituency. He acknowledged that the region faces a number of socio-economic challenges but insisted that the electorate continues to trust Swapo as the only political formation capable of addressing these issues.
“I am confident that we will retain all seats in the regional council elections. Our people know that only Swapo is able to deliver on its promises despite the socio-economic hardships that exist,” he said.
Addressing young voters who may be inclined to support opposition parties, Amukwiyu warned against attempts to withhold voters’ cards from the elderly.
“I don’t know if it is happening in Onyaanya Constituency, but there are reports that some young people opposing Swapo are hiding the voter cards of the elderly, including the blind, to prevent them from exercising their democratic right to vote,” he said.
“They are doing this because they know the elderly still believe in the party that liberated the country. If you engage in such acts, it shows a lack of respect for those who gave life to you. Respect your elders. If it was not for them, would you have been born? Swapo is our culture, our history, and it is our future.”
Amukwiyu also presented the party’s candidate for Onyaanya Constituency, Nestor Iyambo, describing him as a tested comrade ready to lead the constituency. He urged the electorate to engage with their representatives but stressed that should Iyambo fail to perform or listen to the people’s concerns, citizens should report to the party structures to ensure issues are addressed.
Oshikoto remains one of Swapo’s strongholds in regional government elections.
