911 police officers promoted
Almost half are women
Members of the force are promoted in recognition of their commitment and dedication to national duties, the police noted.
Inspector-General of the Namibian Police, Joseph Shikongo, announced on Wednesday that a total of 911 police officers have been promoted, starting on 1 February.
Among these promotions, 421 (46%) are women, while the number of men promoted totalled 490.
Out of the 911 promotions, 300 will be from inspector to senior inspector, and 469 will be from warrant officer to inspector.
"I must acknowledge that the promotion of the aforementioned officers would not have been possible without the commitment and continuous support from the central government," Shikongo said.
"It is also important to stress that members of the force are promoted in recognition of their commitment and dedication to national duties," he added.
"Therefore, promotion should not be seen as a mere decoration or just a reward to an officer or a member, but it comes with huge responsibilities on their shoulders; these include a high level of accountability, commitment, command and control, and honesty in upholding the rule of law," he emphasised.
