Police destroy 360 illicit firearms
The Namibian Police destroyed 360 firearms and 80 rounds of ammunition this week.
The weapons date back to collections that began in September 2024 as part of ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms from circulation.
Speaking at the event, Police Commissioner and Head of Crime Prevention Teopolina Kalompo Nashikaku said the exercise formed part of a broader campaign to curb illicit firearms and promote public safety.
The weapons were voluntarily surrendered by members of the public, mainly during annual amnesty periods, and were largely undocumented. The cache included rifles and pistols.
