Four suicides raise alarm at coast

An increasing number of suicides have prompted Erongo police to urge individuals struggling with depression to seek the necessary help when in need.Police community service unit commander for the Erongo Region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, said the rapid rise in suicides over a short period presents a serious concern. He emphasised the importance of seeking support in a time of severe emotional distress. Shapumba confirmed that a man died by suicide on Sunday, 12 November. The incident occurred at a house in Tutaleni, Walvis Bay.Support loved onesThe 29-year-old had complained of not feeling well. In response, his relatives went to him and took him to an aunt&#039;s house for support, Shapumba said. The deceased allegedly went to church in the company of his aunt, and they returned home at around 15:00. While in the house, he said he was tired and started exhibiting extreme stress. The deceased allegedly threatened to end his life, which caused panic, and those present ran out of the house to find help.When they returned, the man had taken his own life.A second suicide was reported on 12 November at a house in Kuisebmond, Walvis Bay.Shapumba confirmed that the body of a 50-year-old man was allegedly discovered by his landlord. Shapumba said that no foul play was suspected and no suicide note was found.The decomposed body of a man (58) was discovered at Swakop Stoor Storage Garages in the new industrial area on 15 November.On the same day, police found the body of a male at a house in Kuisebmond. The man had died by suicide.
