Cleaner in middle of Chinese robbery
The Namibian Police have managed to recover another N$80 000 of the N$3.3 million in cash and properties stolen from a Chinese national in Windhoek’s Hochland Park on 10 August. Some of the money was allegedly splurged by the Chinese national’s domestic worker and her friend.
According to information circulating on social media - which was confirmed by regional commander for Khomas, Commissioner Ismael Basson - the police established the suspects’ identities, which include Gideon Shivolo, Tobias ‘Shorty’ Shetwaadha and the domestic worker simply known as Frieda.
Last Friday, police arrested 32-year-old Andreas Frans and 30-year-old Haimbondi Salom Sheehama on a bus at the Oshivelo police point, en route to the north of the country.
The men were found in possession of a firearm, a pistol with its serial number removed and 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition without a licence as well as cash amounting to N$2 000 and US$200.
According to leaked police information, the N$80 000 was recovered from Frans’ girlfriend, while his friend was found in possession of US$1 000. Frieda returned N$240 to the police, and her friend and neighbour, Wilma Ndemwimba, returned N$12 600.
Before the police got to them, Ndemwimba splurged on a new double bed, a pair of Adidas sneakers and a Huawei cellphone, as well as two small gas stoves and two gas bottles for her and friend.
She also paid her landlord N$1 200, of which the police could only recover N$1 000.
Frieda, on the other hand, told police she gave her mother N$1 000 and her two sisters N$500 each, while she paid her landlord N$900.
Police also recovered one laptop, a Playstation and two rounds of ammunition for a shotgun.
“It is a pity that information was leaked and circulated on social media that in a way will jeopardise further investigations; however, yes, it is true. So far, the police have recovered about N$105 667 and US$1 200 in cash, excluding properties bought,” Basson confirmed on WhatsApp.
He added that Frieda was arrested, while Ndemwimba was let go after the money and items in her possession were confiscated.
