Boy (5) drowns in canal
A five-year-old boy drowned in a water canal last weekend at Uundombo village in the Omusati Region.
The incident reportedly happened at around 16:00 on Sunday afternoon.
Omusati crime investigation coordinator, deputy commissioner Moses Simaho, said it is alleged that the young boy, identified as Atanasius Indileni Mukwiilongo, had gone to fetch water with other children from the same household, when he fell into the canal.
The ages of the children who were with him at the time of the incident have not been released by the police.
“The children rushed to inform people at Ehafo location, close to the canal, who then came to remove the body from the water,” Simaho said. Mukwiilongo was declared dead at the scene.
The child’s remains were taken to the Oshikuku hospital mortuary and will be transported to Okahao police mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The police do not suspect that foul play was involved in the incident.
