Murder accused breaks down in court during bail hearing

The Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday postponed the bail hearing of Tuutileni Miika (48) to today after he became overwhelmed with emotion during proceedings.Miika faces multiple serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, theft, and assault.Miika, visibly emotional during his testimony, pleaded not guilty to all five charges stemming from an October 2024 incident at Henning Crushers in Ondangwa.Magistrate Nelao Ya France adjourned the matter to allow Miika to compose himself before continuing the hearing today.Miika is accused of the alleged murder of his manager, John Myberg.He is also accused of attempting to kill his supervisor, John Richter, stealing a bicycle, unlawfully discharging a firearm, and assault by threat.Miika, who broke down in tears while testifying, told the court that he had been unfairly accused and mistreated by management, which included alleged racial insults and being assigned degrading work.The State, represented by prosecutor Tony Bock, is opposing bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offences, the risk of absconding, and the public interest.Not guiltyMiika, who was represented by defence lawyer Samson Enkali from Kadhila Amoomo Legal Practitioners, insisted he has no intention of fleeing and described the accusations against him as false and deeply painful.He also informed the court that he has no previous convictions, no passport and strong family ties within Namibia.The court heard that tensions between Miika and his superiors had escalated over alleged unsafe working conditions and discrimination, which Miika said began in early 2023. He claimed that workplace disputes, including concerns over hazardous dust exposure, had led to victimisation and mistreatment before the tragic events of October last year.
