29 children die by suicide in over a year

A total of 679 Namibians died by their own hand between January 2021 and May 2022, with the majority (559) being male adults. Of the number, 91 were female adults while 29 were children - 18 boys and 11 girls.

Deputy health minister Esther Muinjangue this month said Namibia, which has the fourth highest suicide rate per 100 000 people on the continent, urgently needs to put in place different interventions to address the high suicide rate, especially among men and boys.
