Warm winters and hearts
The Better Together Community Foundation founders Scholastika Shivute and Kondjeinasho Haufiku established the foundation after they saw a genuine need that required real solutions.
"The foundation was started from the heart. We are both working mothers, partners, full-time employees and family orientated.
“Time, funds and resources are often a problem, but we agreed that no man is an island, and we immediately wanted to make it formal," Haufiku said.
The foundation consists of seven members, including Shivute and Haufiku.
The pair describe their team as dedicated and as experts in their respective fields.
"The Better Together Community Foundation intends to work hard each year to share medical, social, technical and human capital skills to improve the lives of our fellow Namibians," Haufiku said.
Warmer winter
This year, during May and June, the foundation ran a successful winter donation campaign aimed at giving food, blankets, hygiene essentials and healthcare equipment to the Tobias Hainyeko constituency in Babylon A and Babylon B.
"It was heart-warming to see what amazing work a united community can achieve. We are busy planning for our next outreaches in the Hardap (Karanas and Groondrae community) and Ohangwena regions respectively," Shivute and Haufiku said.
The pair hope that, although the future is not guaranteed, the organisation will continue long into the future, with younger generations continuing the work once they no longer can.
"Our plans are not set in stone; they are ever-changing with the goal to cater to the needs of those we come into contact with. One thing is for sure, we will continue to serve and help our fellow Namibians whenever we can."
