Sleepless nights for mother of missing woman

Elizabeth Kheibes
Selma Gottlieb says she has not been able to sleep since her daughter's disappearance two years ago.

Apolonia Sheehama (31) went missing in March 2022 after leaving their house in Otjomuise to attend a workshop.

“I don’t get any sleep because I still don’t know where my child is," Gottlieb said last week.

"As a mother, I plead with whoever may have information about her whereabouts to please let us know,” she said.

The grieving mother said her daughter had a child in 2008, "and I have had to take care of the child since that time. My daughter had severe mental issues that started when she was 14, and those have since been passed on to my grandchild."

Sheehama speaks Oshiwambo as well as English, Afrikaans, Damara/Nama and Portuguese.

In a police report issued in 2023, the Namibian police described Sheehama as tall and brown in complexion.

She was last seen with a braided, long Rasta hairstyle.

Gottlieb urged anyone with information regarding her daughter's whereabouts to contact detective sergeant Petrus (full name provided) at 081 23 316 36, herself at 081 27 812 82 or the nearest police station.

The Namibian Police did not provide an update on the case at the time of publication.
