NAMIBIAN TOWNS LIGHT UP FOR CHRISTMAS

NAMIBIAN TOWNS LIGHT UP FOR CHRISTMAS: Festive lights have been switched on across several Namibian towns, bringing festive cheer to residents as well as community outreach initiatives aimed at ensuring a great Christmas for all.

Lüderitz mayor Brigitte Fredericks officially switched on the town’s Christmas lights at the council offices last week, signalling the beginning of local celebrations in the harbour town. The event attracted a large group of children, who received packets of crisps and juice from the mayor.

As part of the municipality’s festive-season outreach, Fredericks also oversaw the distribution of 650 food parcels to elderly residents. Each parcel included fish, chicken and staple items such as rice, sugar, macaroni, maize meal and cooking oil. Representatives from 20 churches collected the parcels from the mayor’s office and coordinated their distribution to beneficiaries across Lüderitz.

Elsewhere, Christmas lights have been switched on along the streets of Ondangwa, offering motorists and pedestrians a colourful display at night. The decorations are particularly prominent at Gwashamba Mall, which has been adorned to reflect the festive spirit.

In Walvis Bay, Erongo RED, in collaboration with the municipality, illuminated the area around the Civic Centre. A new Christmas tree installed at the centre of Diaz Circle has emerged as a focal point, while the annual light display at the home of Dani du Toit along the so-called Millionaire’s Lane in Lagoon once again drew attention.
