Senior leaders from the Hardap region visited the Klein Aub settlement last week to engage with the community on upcoming development initiatives under the eighth administration.

The meeting focused on informing and consulting the community about key capital development projects planned for the settlement.

Among those attending were Hardap regional governor Riaan Charles McNab, regional council chairperson Gerhardus Kooper and Rehoboth rural constituency councillor Gustaf Garoeb.

The delegation met with the acting chief regional officer, Werner Coetzee, director Julian Engelbrecht, administrative officers from the Klein Aub Settlement Office as well as representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

McNab thanked the Klein Aub community for their active participation and praised the unity among leadership and stakeholders, describing it as a sign of strong commitment to efficient service delivery.

Work together

Garoeb outlined the planned development projects and urged residents to support the initiatives by working together and assisting consultants and technical staff in creating a peaceful and conducive environment for effective implementation.

Key projects planned for the Klein Aub settlement include the formalisation of the Sonder Water Informal Area, the interlocking of part of the access road leading to the settlement office, and improvements to the water reticulation system, including the construction of a new reservoir.

Kooper emphasised the importance of information sharing, noting that informed communities are better positioned to take ownership of their development. Community members actively contributed, offering suggestions such as a youth multipurpose centre, improved internet connectivity and initiatives to create jobs.

The Klein Aub community welcomed the planned developments and praised the leadership for engaging directly with residents. Technical staff and consultants also shared their insights, followed by site visits carried out in close collaboration with the community.
