National ICT summit slated for September

The eighth National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Summit was officially launched on Tuesday at the Roof of Africa Hotel by information and communication technology minister Emma Theofelus.

Scheduled to take place from 9 to 11 September in Windhoek, the summit will focus on the theme 'Building Resilience to 'Adapt or Die' in the Era of Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI).'

In her keynote address, Theofelus underscored the importance of embracing AI to bolster Namibia’s competitiveness and resilience through digital transformation.

"Digital transformation and AI are not mere trends but pivotal forces reshaping our societies, economies, and daily lives. The urgency to 'adapt or die' highlights the critical need to embrace these technological advancements," she said.

The summit garnered significant support from sponsors, with monetary contributions totalling over N$1 million and in-kind donations valued at N$456 000.

Theofelus expressed gratitude to the sponsors, recognising their crucial role in making the event a success and advancing Namibia’s ICT sector.

Collaboration and innovation

Deputy information minister Modestus Amutse emphasised the summit's role in fostering innovation and collaboration within Namibia’s ICT sector, stating: "This annual event serves as a pivotal platform for driving technological advancement and national development."

The summit aims to facilitate discussions, knowledge sharing and networking opportunities, with a focus on building a resilient digital ecosystem in Namibia. It will bring together stakeholders from government, the private sector, academia, and civil society to explore strategies for continuous learning, innovation and adaptation in the evolving digital landscape.

Theofelus highlighted the need for collective efforts towards leveraging digital transformation and AI for the benefit of all Namibians.

"Together, we can harness the transformative potential of digital technologies to build a brighter future."
