Proverbs 31 as a professional woman - Part 43
SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY
Dear loyal readers, I trust that you’re blessed and highly favoured.
Thank you for joining me on this journey as we continue to unpack success principle 10 for Proverbs 31 as a professional woman: “She’s strong, courageous and discerning”. Please read parts 36-42 for more context.
In part 42, I discussed the nuances of learning to be still and trusting the Lord’s strength to get you through a workplace battle.
In part 41, I shared that:
“The part of being still in the midst of a workplace battle is probably one of the most foolish sounding instructions, but this allows God to speak in ways that you cannot even imagine because God’s glory is unfathomable.”
To enrich our understanding of the above, I referred to Jesus Christ, Daniel, Ruth and Queen Esther as examples of people whose -
“collective experiences are proof that sometimes God will make you look weak in the eyes of men so that they will testify about how He lifted you.”
I added that:
“The Presence of God’s strength in your life, doesn’t mean the absence of battles and it takes courage and faith to hold on to the assurance of the overwhelming victory that we have in Jesus Christ (Romans 8:37)”.
It is the demonstration of Daniel’s ability to maintain his faith in God while working in a foreign country and serving under a pagan-worshipping king that reveals that – sometimes you don’t get to choose your boss. However, we have the opportunity to trust God to be our strength and to strengthen us in our work, regardless of who our boss is.
The workplace is often defined by excellence and success, but it is usually also the place where spiritual and physical battles are fought. In part 42, I shared that:
“Sometimes in the midst of workplace battles, it will even look like God is being unfair to you. But God’s glory is not perceived in human terms because His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts (see Isaiah 55:8-12).”
Something we don’t consider is that sometimes the Lord allows the battle not to punish you (especially when you know that you’re not wrong) but to test and refine you so that you will grow into a higher version of yourself. The story of Joseph is proof that the Lord was his strength, and He strengthened Joseph to overcome his many challenges. But what many people didn’t realize is that, for the prophecy of his rising to be fulfilled (as per Genesis 37), the Lord tested and refined him first (see the reference to this in Psalms 105:19 AMP), which means that Joseph, the boy who wore a tunic in Genesis 37, was not fit to be Joseph the Prime Minister of Egypt in Genesis 41. That level of elevation and carrying the magnificent weight of God’s glory in Genesis 41 required a transformed version of Joseph.
Some people want the blessing of the title, positions, and power from God, but very few people are willing to go through what it takes to become the transformed version of themselves that is trusted to carry the magnificent weight of God’s glory.
Most of the time, we want His glory, but without the background story that shows how He lifted us. We want the palace without the process.
I’m not glorifying spiritual battles; I’m drawing your attention to the fact that you need to be tested to be trusted by God – the bible has many examples you can draw from. The testing produces refinement and oil, but to get through it, you need to trust Him to be your strength and to strengthen you to reach the elevated version of yourself.
Why?
Because each season requires a higher level of faith, as what will fight you at your elevated level will not be what fought you three years ago. The faith from 3 years ago will be crushed in a new season if it is not strengthened by you cultivating a deeper intimacy and trust in God.
It takes confidence in the Lord and His power to get you through a workplace battle. Sometimes, it will even look like He’s being unfair to you, but Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the book of Daniel will remind you that even if the furnace is 7 times hotter, stand firm in your faith IN HIM.
Why?
Because unless your faith is firm, He cannot make you stand firm (Isaiah 7:9 NLT).
In a workplace battle, don’t just go through the fire. Allow the heat to refine, purify, sanctify and burn away anything that doesn’t glorify God in your life. God’s strength will carry you, and when you come out on the other side, His strength will be revealed through YOU in ways that you never imagined.
Shalom.
Shalom.
