Editorial: Advisers who serve the nation first

Leadership is not exercised in isolation; it is sharpened by the counsel of those closest to power.

For President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the calibre of advice she receives will determine whether Namibia attracts the investment it urgently needs or loses credibility on the global stage.

The country’s future rests on securing capital and partnerships. To achieve this, the president must be guided by advisers with proven skill and ambassadorial capacity – individuals able to sell Namibia’s potential credibly, persuasively, strategically and consistently while safeguarding its interests.

This is not to suggest that the president lacks capable advisers. Some within her circle continue to demonstrate depth and competence. However, several recent appointments to key ministries, departments and public enterprises have raised eyebrows.

Concerns linger about whether loyalty and political convenience are being prioritised above experience, strategy and vision.

For a young democracy striving to inspire confidence, appearances matter as much as outcomes.

A president who entrusts critical decisions to advisers driven by the national interest will not only strengthen accountability but also cement her legacy as the leader who positioned Namibia for long-term prosperity.
