Young Women of Africa boost menstrual health in Eluwa Resource School
Learners at Eluwa Resource School in Ongwediva, Oshana region, received a donation of sanitary pads valued at a total of N$4 500 on Friday from the Namibian chapter of the Young Women of Africa Organisation (YWOA).
The donation, part of efforts to promote menstrual health and support girls’ education, was carried out under the theme “Restoring Dignity and Empowering the Girl Child by Ending Period Poverty".
Speaking during the handover, YWOA spokesperson Eva Josaphat encouraged learners to believe in their dreams and reminded them that menstruation should never be a barrier to education.
“Menstruation should never prevent a girl from achieving her dreams," Josaphat said.
"No girl should have to miss school or feel embarrassed because of something that is natural. Initiatives like this are important in restoring the dignity of the girl child,” she added.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the school, chairperson Ndamonanghenda Onesmus expressed appreciation to the organisation, saying the gesture symbolises care and the beginning of a partnership aimed at ensuring that no girl is left behind.
“This donation serves as a symbol of future partnership, care and a commitment to ensuring that no girl is left out,” Onesmus said.
The sanitary pads were officially handed over by Josaphat, country secretary Elrethra Schroeder and Kristofina Naakandungile, the organisation’s representative in the Oshana Region.
