RA, Ohangwena discuss improving regional roads
The Roads Authority (RA) met with Ohangwena Regional Council leadership in Windhoek last week to review progress on road infrastructure development in the region, with a strong focus on improving access during the flood season.
The meeting, led by Ohangwena Regional Council chairperson Ephraim Shipindo, centred on the implementation of the region’s road master plan.
Particular attention was given to access roads that become impassable during periods of heavy rainfall, cutting off communities from essential services.
The flood-prone roads are critical for ensuring uninterrupted access to health facilities, schools and local markets, especially during the rainy season when parts of Ohangwena are frequently inundated.
During the discussions, it was noted that approximately 40 flood-prone access roads had previously been identified for upgrading and improvement.
The meeting heard that significant progress has been made, with the majority of these roads already completed.
The improvements have reportedly enhanced connectivity and mobility in affected areas, easing the movement of residents and supporting socio-economic activities in the region.
The two institutions pledged to ensure that communities across Ohangwena have reliable and all-weather road access.
