Ongwediva Leisure Park makes progress

Construction of the second phase of the Ongwediva Leisure Park at Extension 11 is progressing steadily, with groundwork currently underway as the Ongwediva Town Council advances plans to expand recreational facilities for residents and visitors.

The second phase includes landscaping, the construction of a beach volleyball court, installation of electrical infrastructure, development of a communal lounge, and the creation of picnic and relaxation areas. The project also provides for essential water and sewer connections.

Ongwediva Town Council spokesperson Ottilie Shingenge said the development forms part of the local authority’s ongoing efforts to improve recreational infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for residents.

Once completed, the leisure park is expected to stimulate local tourism, create employment opportunities during and after construction, and provide a venue that promotes social interaction, healthy lifestyles and community well-being.

Shingenge said the completed park will feature landscaped green spaces, children’s play areas, walking paths, picnic facilities and other outdoor amenities designed to encourage recreation and community engagement.

Construction of the leisure park began in 2024 after the council allocated land in Extension 11 for the development.

The first phase focused on site preparation and the establishment of basic infrastructure to pave the way for the broader vision of creating a family-friendly destination for residents and visitors.

Council has maintained that the facility will not only provide a safe environment for leisure and outdoor activities but will also contribute to the town’s attractiveness as a tourism and investment destination.
