Ohangwena courts investors

Ohangwena governor Kadiva Hamutumwa says the region is stepping up efforts to attract investment that creates jobs, grows local businesses and turns its strategic position into economic opportunities.

The recently launched regional investment map and action plan identifies agriculture and agro-processing, livestock and value addition, manufacturing, tourism and hospitality among key investment sectors.

Hamutumwa said investment must go beyond bringing capital into the region and ensure local businesses benefit.

“Our local businesses must not remain spectators when new investments enter our region,” she said, urging entrepreneurs to position themselves as suppliers, service providers, partners and co-investors.

She highlighted opportunities to add value to agricultural products through processing, packaging, storage, logistics and marketing.

The region also plans to capitalise on its proximity to Angola by strengthening cross-border trade and developing industries around the movement of goods and people.

Minister in the Presidency Charles Mubita said success would be measured by the businesses, jobs and improved livelihoods created.

“The success of the Ohangwena regional investment map will ultimately be measured not by the elegance of its pages, but by the enterprises it creates, the jobs it creates, and the lives it transforms.”
