Katutura Old Age Home receives donation

Nee-Thanks Uupindi

The Dr Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun Foundation donated blankets, pillows, towels, pillowcases and face cloths worth more than N$20 000 to the Katutura Old Age Home in Windhoek earlier this month. Residents also received soup, while the men were treated to free haircuts.

"When people ask me why the Dr Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun Foundation has such a soft spot for the elderly, I tell them it is not charity, it is gratitude. It is us simply trying to give back a portion of what was given to us," Namundjebo-Tilahun said.

Marketing and communications coordinator Aina Braz said the donations were intended to remind residents that they are cared for and loved. She said businesses have a social responsibility to support vulnerable members of the community. Resident Gretha Haukongo thanked the foundation for its support.

"I just want to firstly thank God. The word of God says joy comes in the morning. I think this donation is our joy for this Friday morning. We really appreciate what you have done for us today," she said.
