Families who lost homes in Outapi fires receive crucial food aid
Families whose homes were recently destroyed by a fire in the Outapi constituency have been given a boost with food donations to help them cope with the aftermath of the tragedy.
So far 12 houses have been destroyed by fire in the Outapi constituency since January this year.
Outapi constituency councillor Selma Asino secured a donation of various food items from Choppies Supermarket in Outapi to assist the affected families as they begin rebuilding their lives.
Among the beneficiaries were Adelheid Nambudhi from Eyanda mOlupaka village and Shalonga Gabriel from Naitembu village. The two expressed gratitude for the support received during a difficult period following the loss of their homes.
Rebuilding lives
Asino said the food assistance is expected to ease the burden on the families as they recover from the incident and work towards restoring their livelihoods. She said the office is also mobilising resources for building materials so the families can rebuild their shelters.
Asino said the intervention highlights their commitment to supporting vulnerable members of the constituency while also reflecting Choppies’ role in extending a helping hand to communities in need.
Holding hands
Asino said the donation also reflects the spirit of Ubuntu, the belief that communities grow stronger when people support one another, particularly during times of hardship.
“As Mother Teresa once said, if you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one. Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love,” she said.
