Breaking news: Imalwa cites security measures on Shiweda anniversary
The acting prosecutor-general Martha Imalwa says a national security task force chaired by Chief Justice Peter Shivute has been established to protect court officials, as Namibia marks one year since the attack on Ondangwa prosecutor Justine Shiweda.
In a statement issued yesterday, Imalwa said the task force was established at President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s direction. She did not detail its operational measures.
Shiweda was shot and attacked with a corrosive substance in Ondangwa on 17 October 2025, and subsequently died from her injuries on 7 February 2026.
Imalwa is expected to lay a wreath at the family’s Oshana residence today.
The statement expressed solidarity with Shiweda’s two children but did not specify assistance provided or planned for them, following the family’s concerns over unfulfilled support commitments.
